Dinah was born circa 1674 in New York. An unknown person married, son of Captain Daniel Patrick and Anna van Beyeren, the 25th day of the 2nd month 1696 in his home in the Town of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, New York.1,2 She and Daniel were blessed with 4 children. The family resided in the Town of Flushing. They were members of the Society of Friends [Quaker]. 1698, Daniel and Dinah and her husband, [ROF:Flushing Town] were listed on the Flushing Town Census; Daniel Patrick, Dinah his wife, James Feake, daughter: Sarah and one negro. Dinah began to show signs of mental instability, in October of 1716, she faced accusations of being a "common scould", at the Court of Special Sessions in the Town of Westchester. She was further described as "being a common disturber of the peace", thought to be a Lunitic and/or disturbed with Evil Spirits. It was also stated that several members of the community were terrorized as long as she was about. It was ordered that her huband keep her at home - not to travel abroad. Interestingly, four years later, on 10 January 1720, it was voted by these same people to pay Dinah Patrick for nursing Thomas Wells for three weeks.3
