Rose was born circa 1679 in the Town of Oyster Bay, Queens County, Long Island, New York. She was the daughter of John Wright and Mary Townsend. Rose married Nathaniel Coles Jr., son of Nathaniel Coles and Martha Jackson, circa 1687 in Queens County, Long Island, New York. Rose married 2nd "Justice" John Townsend, son of Thomas Townsend and Sarah Coles, on 1 February 1706 in Queens County, Long Island, New York. [license date] Rose's husband, an unknown person , died on 6 November 1709 in Ouseden, County Suffolk, England, leaving her a widow. Rose married 3rd Samuel Birdsall before 1734 in New York. She remained unmarried several years, but in 1734 signs herself Rose Birdsall, after which nothing is known of her. Rose and her sister Eliphal were "celebrated" Beauties. It is thought that she received a considerable inheritance from her father's estate, which she managed competently. She also must have been trained well as her writing was described as "remarkably easy and handsome."

- [S124] A Memorial of John, Henry, and Richard Townsend & their descendants., page 204 - ROSE, as well as Eliphal, is said to have been a celebrated beauty. She married, first, Nathaniel Coles, Jr. He died September 8th, 1705, and she married Justice John Townsend. She became a widow again, in 1709. This time she remained unmarried several years, but in 1734 signs herself Rose Birdsall, after which nothing is known of her. She must have had what was then a handsome fortune from her father, which she was quite competent to manage. Her writing is remarkably easy and Handsome.-Issue, by her first husband, Rosannah, Freelove, Martha, and Wright ; by the second, Penn and Rose. (See Justice John, Chap. IV.).
