     Adam was born on Tuesday, 10 August 1548 in London, County Middlesex, England. He was a graduate of Magdalene College. He was a lawyer, a County Magistrate & auditor of Saint John`s College and Trinity. Adam married Alice Still on 16 December 1574 in England. Adam's wife, Alice, died on 24 December 1577 in Groton, County Suffolk, England, leaving him a widower. Adam married 2nd Anne Browne, daughter of Henry Browne and Agnes (?), on 20 February 1579 in England. Anne was of Edwardstone.3 By 1580, Anne's father had left his home in Edwardstone. Adam & Anne then moved into his house.4 Adam departed this life on Tuesday, 28 March 1623 in Groton Manor, County Suffolk, England. He was buried at Groton, County Suffolk, England, in the Groton Chancel.

[S841] William Henry Whitmore, Notes on the Winthrop Family and Its English Connections, page 4 - Adam (3) Winthrop pf Groton, was a lawyer, Auditor of Trinity College, Cambridge, etc. He married 16 Dec., 1574, Alice, daughter of William Still, Esq. , of Grantham, co. Lincoln, and a sister of Dr. John Still, Bishop of Bath and Wells. She d. 24 Dec., 1577, and he married secondly, Anne, daughter of Henry Browne of Edwardston, clothier. Their children were: I. Anne, b. 5 Jan., 1581; d. 20 Jan., 1581; II. Anne b. 16 Jan., 1586, m. Thomas Fones, 25 Feb., 1605; d. 16 May, 1618; III John, b. 12 Jan., 1588; IV. Jane, bapt. 17 June, 1592, m. Thomas Gostling 5 Jan., 1612; V. Lucy, b. 9 Jan., 1601, m. Emanuel Downing 10 Apr., 1622. He [Adam(3) ] was buried 28 Mch., 1623; his widow d. 19 Apr., 1629.
    The diary of this Adam Winthrop notes numerous relatives; some of these evidently belong to his wife's family. Her sister Joane Browne married William Hilles of Holton, who died 4 Aug., 1597, and had children William, who m. Elizabeth Gibson, 15 Jan., 1600, Elizabeth, and Joan who m. Adam Winthrop, nephew of the above Adam. Another of his wife's sisters married Roger Weston, Vicar of Wormingforde, co. Essex, and another probably married ___________ Duckett. ….
