Adam was born on Sunday, 9 October 1498 in Lavenham, County Suffolk, England. Adam married Alice Henny on 16 November 1527 in London, County Middlesex, England.3 Adam's wife, Alice, died on 12 June 1533 in London, County Middlesex, England, leaving him a widower. Adam married 2nd Agnes Sharpe, daughter of Robert Sharpe and Elizabeth Hewes, on 20 July 1534 in London, County Middlesex, England. Arms were granted to him in 1548 & confirmed to his son, John, in 1592. In 1551, he was Master of the Company of Clothworkers. In 1554, he purchase the manor of Groton in county Sufffolk where he spenthis remaining years. Adam made his will on 20 September 1562.

The XXth daye of September An° Domini 1562, I Adam Wyntrope of Groton in the Countie of Suff, gentleman and late clothworker and Cittezen of London, being whole of mynde and in good and parfect remembrance, thanks be giuen to almightie god, doe ordayne and make this my presente testamente and laste will in manner and forme followinge; revoking and disannulling all other willes & testaments heretofore by me made, or caused to be made. ffirst I bequeath my soule to almightie God, and my boddie to be buried in the parrish churche yarde of Groton aforesaide. Adam departed this life on Friday, 9 November 1562 in Groton Manor, County Suffolk, England. He was buried at Groton, County Suffolk, England, in the Groton Chancel. A monumental brass reads: "here lyth Mr. Adam Winthrop lord and patron of Groton which departed out of this world this IXth day of November in the year of our Lord God mccccclxii [1562].5 His will was probated on 15 January 1563.

Adam departed this life on Friday, 9 November 1562 in Groton Manor, County Suffolk, England. He was buried at Groton, County Suffolk, England, in the Groton Chancel. A monumental brass reads: "here lyth Mr. Adam Winthrop lord and patron of Groton which departed out of this world this IXth day of November in the year of our Lord God mccccclxii [1562].5 His will was probated on 15 January 1563.

He was Master of the Company of Clothworkers, 1551; and in 1554 bought the manor of Groton in Suffolk, wither he retired. He d. 9 Nov., 1562; and his mentions seven children: William, John, Adam,Alice, Bridget, Mary and Susan. His widow m. William Mildmay of Springfield Barns, and d. 13 May, 1565. Her step-son m. Alice Winthrop, as we have seen. This will also mentions a sister Whiting, and another sister, wife of Richard Burd of Ipswich.
