Mehitable Wells

     Mehitable was born in 1711 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. She was the daughter of Joshua Wells & Hannah Tuthill. Mehitable married Deacon William Horton, son of William Horton and Mary (?), on 21 January 1730 in the Town of Southold. Mehitable departed this life on Saturday, 21 March 1772 in the Town of Southold at age 61 years. She was buried there in the First Presbyterian Church burying ground in the village of Southold. The inscription on her tombstone reads: In Memory of Mehitabel ye wife of William Horton - She died March ye 21st 1772 in the 62nd year of her age - she was kind to all a friend to all & beloved of all.¹
