Richard was born circa 1567 in Dundridge Manor in the Parish of Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire, England. Richard married Christian Tuckfield in 1592 in Cholesbury, Buckinghamshire, England. The couple had no children.1 Richard inherited from his father in his will of 2 January 1599 along with many household possesions, one cupboard, 2 tables, 2 formes & all the stooles in the hall, the iron barr in the chimney in the hall, & 2 of the hangers over the fryer there; the great spin; the greatest cohyerns (the irons which support the spit); a pair of andyearns in the parlor, with topps of brass, and the fryer shovel & touges sortable thereunto; the great pott, the great Brewery Cawderne with rings, the yettinge ffatt; the Towe feather beds he uses with the boulsters & furniture belonging to it; 2 bcdstendes standing in the servants' chamber; & the wool bed, & all the furniture belonging to it; the press from the loft; 2 platters of the greater sorte, 2 platters of the second sort, & 2 pewter dishes; a basin & ewer; all his father's armor & horsemyll. & all things thereunto belonginge; 5 silver spoons & a maser. He also received all the glass and waynscott about his house after the decease of his mother & the table in the parlor. Richard made his will on 18 February 1633 at Dundridge Manor in the Parish of Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire, England.
In the name of God Amen. The eighteenth daie of February in the eight yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the Grace of God of England Scotland France & Ireland Kinge, Defender of the Faith etc. anno dom 1632. I Richard Baldwin of Dun-Dridge in the Parishe of Aston Clinton in the Countie of Bucks Yeoman beinge sicke in bodie but of good & perfect remembrance prayse God therefore doe make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner as followeth. First I comitt my soule unto allmightie God my Maker and Redeemer beleeveinge the forgiveness of all my sinies through the death and passion of Jesus Christe my lord, my onely, and alone Savior my bodie I comitt to the earth to be buried in decent and Christian sort by my Executor touchinge my temporall estate I give and bequeath unto Mr Hall now the minister of St Leonards V pound to be paide within three moneths after my decease – Item, I give and bequeath unto Henry Baldwin sonne of my brother Silvester and my next heire all that cloase of free land called Brayes Bushe with appurtenance lyinge in the Parishes of greate Chesham and Wendover to him and his heires for ever yielding and payinge unto the poore people of St Leonards XX shillings a yeare every yeare for the tearme of one hundred yeares to be distributed on St Thomas daie by the minister of St Leonards and my heires. Item I give and bequeath unto the saide Henry Baldwin XX pounds of money to be paide unto him within six moneths after my decease upon condition that he the saide Henry shall suffer all those men wich have bought wood and timber of me quietly and peaceably to fell cut downe and carry away the same and the money that is behinde to be paide unto my executor for the discharge of my legacies in this will given. Item I give and bequeath unto the saide Henry Baldwin one coffer with evidence concerninge this Mannor of Dudridge and also the evidences concerninge the chapel lande and also one mault mill and one coslet and furniture and furniture for one horse for service of the musters, and the tables and frames in the hall with the formes cubbord wainscott, benches and the armor in the said hall. Item I give will and bequeath unto Christian my well beloved wife all the Goods and household stuffe that is or formerly hath used to be my bed chamber except the best piece of plate. Item I give and bequeath unto Christian my wife aforesaid halfe all my bedsteads not bequeathed and half all my bed cloaths halfe all my linen cloathes halfe all my pewter and brasse and halfe all the moveable goods in the dwellinge house whatsoever unbequeathed to be equally divided between the said Christian and my twoe of the best bease xx sheepe three hoggs, all the poultry one quarter of wheate one quarter of malt and all my wearinge apparel to be delivered unto her within tenn daies next after my decease further more my will and my minde is that the Said xx pounds a yeare paid unto her yearely every yeare duringe her naturall life by my next Dundridge and also that she shall have sufficient howse room and firewood. Item I give and bequeath unto John Baldwin my brother xx pounds and to John Baldwin his sonne xx pounds all to be paide within one yeare after my decease and the rest of my money in theire hande’s shall be paide to my executor. Item I give and bequeath unto John Salter and unto David Salter and unto Mary Salter and unto Sarah Salter all beinge the children of Mary Salter my sister aforesaid to everyone of them x pounds all which severall legacies of x pounds a peece bequeathed unto my sister Mary and her children I will shall be paid unto them within twoe yeares next after my decease. I give and bequeathe unto Henry Bonus xx pounds and unto James Bonus x pounds and unto Christian Bonus xxx pounds and which legacies bequeathed unto my Sister Bonuses Children I will shall be paide unto them within one yeare after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Bonus daughter of my sister Jane Bonus one hundred pounds to be paid unto her within one yeare after my decease in full payment of her grandmothers gifte as also of her mothers goods. Item I give and bequeath unto Jane Bonus Daughters of my Sister Jane Fiftie pounds to be paid unto her within twoe yeares after my decease in full payment of her grandmothers gifte as also of her mothers goods. Item I give and bequeath unto Anne Bryant Daughter of Robert Baldwin my Brother and unto Richard Bryant her sonne all that tenement with the appurtentances beinge freeholde lying and being in Wendover towne to the saide Anne and her sonne Richard and their heires for ever and fortie eight pounds v shillings 8 pence in money to be paid within three moneths after my decease. Item I give unto Henry Stonehill sonne of Anne Stonehill my sister xxx pounds to be paid unto him when he shall come of age of xxi years and twentie acres of free land more or lesse in the parishe of Drayton Bechampe to him the saide Henry and his heires for ever. Item I give and bequeath to Anne Stonhill daughter of Anne Stonhill my sister x pounds to be paide within twoe yeares after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Baldwin sonne of Silvester Baldwin my Brother x pounds to be paid within one yeare after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Willyam Baldwin sonne of my brother Silvester x pounds to be paid within one yeare after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Baldwin Sonne of Silvester Baldwin of Aston Clinton x pounds to be paid within one year after my decease. Item I give and bequeath everyone of my Brothers and Sisters Children that shall be living at my decease I saie unto everyone of them fortie shillings to be paide unto everyone of them within one yeare after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Joan Chasse my wifes sister fortie shillings to be paide within one yeare after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Willyam Darly one whole yeares rent of that messuage wherein he now dwelleth that is to saie the next yeare after my decease he shall paie no rent. Item I give and bequeath unto Joyce Bernard widowe xx shillings and to SilvesterTomkins of St Leonards xx shillings and to John Tomkins of the same parish xxs. and unto George Baldwin of the same parishe xxs and unto Richard Gravener of Buckland xxs and unto widowe Wilkins of the same parish xxs and widowe Gourney of the same parish xxs and Edward Springall of the same parishe xxs and to Richard Arnoll of the parishe of Chesham xxs and to his sister Mary Garratt xxs and to Jonas Nuton of Cholesbury xxs and to widow Childe of Harridge xxs and to Robert Wilkins of Buckland xxs and to Shem Ginger of St Leonards xxs. Item I give and bequeath unto the poore people of Aston Clinton xxs and to the poore people of St Leonards xxs and to the poore people of Cholesbury xxs all which bequests by me bequeathed of xxs a peece I will shall be paide within three months after my decease. Item I give unto everyone of my servants that shall be in my service at the time of my death xs to be paide within one moneth after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto the widowe Cock of St Leonards xxs provided always and my will and minde is that all those legacies shall be paide in good and lawful money of England at the severall times appointed by my Executor and if any of those Children shall be under age then I will that their time appointed theire legacies shall be paide unto the fathers of the said children at the time appointed theire fathers giving their own bonds unto my Executor for the true payment thereof to theire said children at theire severall ages of xx years by the shewing of the saide bonds together with sufficient letters of attorney made by my saide Executor unto the saide children for the saveinge of the said bonds and to them delivered shall be a sufficient discharge in lawe for my said Executor against Every of the saide children for his or theire legacies or legacies aforesaide respectively. Item All the rest of my residue of all my goods and cattell and chattels not before bequeathed my debts and legacies being paide my funeral orderly performed and discharged and this my will well and truly fulfilled. I give unto Silvester Baldwin of Aston Clinton sonne of Silvester Baldwin my Brother whome I make and ordaine my whole and sole Executor of this my last will and testament. Richard departed this life in Dundridge Manor in the Parish of Aston Clinton. He was buried there in St. Michael & All Angels Churchyard on Tuesday, 14 October 1636. His will was probated on 29 November 1636. In the Court of the Archdeanery of Bucks by his nephew, Sylvester Baldwin.
