Abiel was born on Sunday, 26 March 1730 in Durham, Middlesex County, Connecticut.¹ He was christened there on 3 May 1730 in Durham.² Abiel married Mehitable Johnson, daughter of Deacon Benjamin Johnson and Eunice Sutliffe, on 1 April 1756 in Durham.^3,4 The family lived on the same farm as Abiel's brother Noah in Durham. Both Abiel & Noah built identical homes & raised them on the same day. He had lands in Albany,
New York which he left to three of his children.⁵ He served in the 1780 Campaign and also in the Militia Regiment under the command of Col. Canfield at West Point in1781 during the American Revolution.⁶ Abiel departed this life on Wednesday, 11 August 1802 in Durham, Middlesex County, Connecticut.^7,4 His will was probated on 30 August 1802 at Middletown, Orange County, New York.
