John Thompson

     John was born on Monday, 8 April 1680 in Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was the son of Ambrose Thompson and Sarah Wells. John married Ruth Curtis, daughter of Benjamin Curtis and Ester Judson, on 15 November 1705 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. John and Ruth had children: Mary [9/07/1706-6/06/1758] [m. 1726 David Wells & 2nd. 1757 Gideon Tomlinson], John [4/01/1717-8/16/1753] [m. 7/07/1741 Mehitable Webb] & Ephraim 9/02/1719-6/16/1746. John's wife, Ruth, died on 23 April 1721 in Stratford leaving him a widower. Later in 1721, John married second Mary Blagge. John departed this life on Saturday, 20 July 1765 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was buried there in the Old Congregational Church Burying Ground. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Here lyes the body of Deacon John Thompson who departed this life July ye 20 1765 in the 85 year of his age.¹
