Thomas was born in 1607 in England. On 13 July 1635, Thomas left London aboard the ship, "James", mastered by Jonathan May, bound for New England. Listed among the passengers were Thomas Terry [aged 28 years], Robert Terry [aged 25 years] 7 Richard Terry [aged 17 years]. They landed at Salem, Massachusetts..3 Thomas married Marie (?) circa 1649. Thomas and Marie had children: Thomas II [circa 1650] [m. circa 1674 Elizabeth & 2nd 1707 Eleanor Thurston, widow of George Havens], Mary [circa 1652] [m. Mr. Reeves], Elizabeth [circa 1654], Ruth [circa 1656] & Daniel [circa 1658] [m. 1684 Sarah]. Thomas's wife, Marie, died on 14 January 1660 in the town of Westchester, Westchester County, New York, leaving him a widower. He had a second wife whose name is unknown. Thomas made his will on 26 November 1671 at the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.
I Thomas Tery Senior of Southold in the County of Yorke being very sick & weak, yet in perfect memory: Sow Mkw this my Last Will and Testament as followeth: I do give unto my beloved wife fifteene bushells of corne yearely to bee paid unto her: ten bushell to bee paid by my son Daniell Tery, and five bushells to bee paid by my son Thomas Tery and this to bee done yearely by them during my wifes life: or widowhood: And alsoe I give unto my wife my bed, and all that belongs to the Same, with all the household goods within Dores, these Doe I give to my wife as her own proper goods for ever, alsoe I doe give unto my wife foure bushels of apples during her life or widowhood yearely:
and if my son Daniel do marry and like not to live together, then my son Daniell shall build my wife a convenient house for her comfortable being during her life or widowhood. Alsoe I give unto my wife the Milke of one cow as long as she lives or remains my widow. I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Tery, one cow to be paid to her at the day of marriage, or when she comes to age; and alsoe I give to my daughter Ruth one cow at the day of her marriage, or when she comes to age; I give to my daughter Mary Reeves one cow or a steere. Alsoe I give to my son Daniell my house with all ye accommodations belonging thereunto within the ould bounds, & I give alsoe to my son Daniel half my land at Accabauk. I give unto my sone Thomas Tery all my landat Curchauk, with half my land at Accaback.4,5,6
Thomas departed this life before 5 June 1672 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. The inventory of Thomas's estate was taken on Sunday, 5 June 1672 as there was no date. The inventory was presented at probate with a value of £147 8s. 6d. His will was probated on 5 June 1672. The will was defective in not naming as executor and the witnesses not being sworn, but on 7n March 1671/72, the court allowed the will because “part of the estate may suffer detriment if not disposed of in short time” and named “his son Daniell Terry” executor.
