Nathaniel Steen

Nathaniel was born on Thursday, 10 July 1834 in Ohio. He was the son of John Steen & Mary Davis. Nathaniel married Elizabeth Peterman, daughter of Michael Peterman and Sarah Ridgely, on 24 September 1858 in Crawford County, Ohio. This marriage ended before 8 May 1890.1 Nathaniel & Elizabeth had an adopted daughter, Ella [1867], wife of Volney W. Jones. Nathaniel enlisted in the Union Army on 8 October 1862. He mustered out on 23 July 1863. 2 September 1870, Nathaniel and his wife, Elizabeth, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Nathaniel Steen [36 Ohio], & his wife: Elizabeth [36 Ohio]. Nathaniel is a butcher.2 25 June 1880, Nathaniel and his wife, Elizabeth, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Nathaniel Steen [45 Ohio Ireland PA - Butcher], his wife: Elizabeth [46 Ohio]. & daughter, Ella [13 Ohio].3 On 8 May 1890, Nathaniel married Nancy Jane Good in Crawford County.4 Nathaniel departed this life on Monday, 15 December 1919 in Bucyrus at age 85 years, 5 months and 5 days. He was buried there in Oakwood Cemetery.5
