Matthew St. John1

M, b. circa 1687, d. 3 August 1755
     Matthew was born circa 1687 in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was the son of Mathias St. John & _____ Bouton of Norwalk. Matthew married Anne Whitney, daughter of John Whitney and Elizabeth Smith, on 13 October 1709 in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut. On 30 September 1708, he was part of the company who purchased Ridgefield from the indians on this date. on 12 May 1709, he petitions for town privileges. He was one of the original settlers. He sold his land 6 April 1723. Around the 6 April 1723, they settled at Pympawaug which is now the town of Wilton. On 5 March 1745, they bought a farm two miles north of Sharon Village, Litchfield County, Connecticut. Church records give his removal as June 1745 and list him as "Captain". Matthew departed this life on Sunday, 3 August 1755 in Sharon, Litchfield County, Connecticut. He was in his 69th year.
