Jesse Henry Spahr

Jesse Henry was born on Monday, 3 March 1800 in Dover Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of George & Catherine [Guyer] Spahr. Jesse married Margaret Peterman, daughter of Johannes Peterman and Maria Barbara Eckert, on 5 August 1821 in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, at First Evangelical Church.. [12/02/1841] The 1840 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio, the family of Jesse Spar [ 1012001:2221011]. 3 September 1850, Jesse and his wife, Margaretha, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Jesse Spahr [51 Pennsylvania], his wife: Margaret [50 Pennsylvania], children: Jacob [23 Pennsylvania], Mary [19 Ohio], Samantha [17 Ohio], Catherine [15 Ohio], Benjamin [13 Ohio], & Sarah Ann [11 Ohio].1 20 June 1860, Jesse and his wife, Margaretha, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Sulphur Springs, Liberty Township. Enumerated in this household were Joseph Spurr [61 Pennsylvania], his wife: Margaret [60 Pennsylvania], son, Benjamin A. [23 Ohio], Christena [20 Ohio] along with Ellen Dix [13 Ohio].2 1 July 1870, Jesse and his wife, Margaretha, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Sulphur Springs, Liberty Township. Enumerated in this household were Jessie Spahr [71 Ohio], his wife: Peggy [71 Ohio], & Nancy Dix [31 Ohio].3 Jesse made his will on 31 July 1879 at Sandusky Township.
In the name of God, Amen Thankful to God for His mercies in the past and for the sound mind and memory which I now possess, I hereby publish and make this my last will and testament.
Item 1st . I desire that my executor whom I shall appoint, shall pay out of my estate all my debts and funeral expenses.
Item 2nd. The balance of my property I hereby bequeath to my Beloved Wife, Margaret Spahr, to be used by her durning her natural life in the event she outlives me, and charge the duty on my executor of taking care of said property while she lives.
Iten 3rd. After the death of my said wife, and her funeral expenses are all paid, I bequeath the remainder of my estate to the following named children and grandchildren in the following proportions to-wit:

Item 4th. I hereby appoint my son, George A. Spahr as the executor of this my last will and testament, and reposing special confidence in his integority and business management I desire that he be not required to give bail as executor. I specially charge upon him the duty of taking good care of my beloved wife while she lives and see that she never suffers for the comforts of life.
I wish no administration of my affairs in the probate or any other court, farther than that this my last will and testament shall be entered of record.
I hereby revoke all former wills made bhertofore by me.
I witness whereof I hereunto set my hand nad seal, at my residence in Sandusky Township, Crawford County, Ohio, this the 31st day of July A.D. 1879.

We also certify that at the signing and execution of said will Jesse Spahr, was in good mind and memory.

17 June 1880, Jesse and his wife, Margaretha, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census living in the home of their daughter at Sandusky Township. Enumerated in this household were Mary Torrence [47 Ohio][keeping house], John [21 Ohio], servant: Emma French [44 Ohio], father: Jesse Spahr [80 Pennsylvania], & mother: Margaret [79 Pennsylvania]. Jesses & Margaret had old age listed as a disability.5 Jesse departed this life on Thursday, 5 May 1881 in Sandusky Township at age 81 years, 2 months and 2 days. He was buried there in Luke Cemetery.6 His will was probated on 11 June 1881. The Probate was filed: 21 May 1884.
