Ichabod Smith

Ichabod was born on Sunday, 1 January 1708 in Suffield, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of Ichabod & Mary [Huxley] Smith. Ichabod married Elizabeth Stedman, daughter of John Stedman III and Abigail Andrews, on 1 January 1731 in Suffield, Hartford County, Connecticut.1 Ichabod & Elizabeth had children: Phineas [6/09/1732-1742], Elizabeth [2/28/1734-1764] [m. 3/02/1757 Eliphalet Spencer], Ruth [11/13/1736] [4/13/1757 Oliver Baker], Ichabod [1738] [m. 9/16/1765 Susanna Pomroy], Asahel [11/26/1739-6/26/1794] [m. 6/28/1763 Agnes Gillett], Jerusha [8/13/1742-2/15/1814] [m. 10/30/1760 Paul Smith], Anne [11/26/1744], & Phineas [10/28/1746]. Ichabod made his will on 24 February 1748/49 at Suffield, Hartford County, Connecticut.
In the name of God Amen -----The twenty fourth day of February one thousand seven hundred forty eight nine I Icobod Smith Jum of Suffield in the County of Hampshire in his majesty’s province of ye Massachusetts. . .he leaves to his well beloved wife half of the house and barn where they now dwell, a garden plot etc. – to his son Icabod the other half of the house and barn etc. He gives to his other two sons, Asahel and Phineas other lands that he owns. To his four daughters, Elizabeth, Ruth Jerusha & Anna, each a lot when they become of age. He appoints his brother James Smith and his wife as the executors of his will. Witnessed by Nathan Pomroy, Jonathan Smith & Joseph Smith.2
Ichabod departed this life on Wednesday, 26 February 1749 in Suffield at age 41 years, 1 month and 25 days. His will was probated on 1 February 1759. The Probate was in Suffield, Hartford County, Connecticut. By this date, two of the children of Icabod, Phineas and Ann, have died. There portions are to be equally divided amongst the surviving children.
