Arthur Smith
M, b. before 20 April 1651, d. before 3 February 1712/13
Arthur was born in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was christened there on 20 April 1651 in First Church.1 Arthur married Sarah Newell, daughter of Thomas Newell and Rebecca Olmsted, circa 1683 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. Arthur and Sarah had children: Sarah [4/14/1684] [m. William Baker], Hannah [10/04/1688] & Phebe [1700]. Arthur's wife, Sarah, died in 1700 in Hartford leaving him a widower. Arthur made his will on 26 December 1712.
I Arthur Smith of Hartford, doe make this my last will and testament: I give to my daughter Sarah Smith my house and frame barn and shop, and 10 acres of land on the front of my lot, only I reserve a way 3 rods wide on the west side of the lot for the benefit of my other two daughters for to come at their land, which way is not to be taken out of Sarah’s 10 acres. I give to my daughter Sarah 1/3 part pf all my land lying in the South Meadow, and 1/3 part of all my personal estate. I give to my other two daughters, Hannah and Phebe, the rest of my lands and my home lot, to be equally divided between them, and also the remaining 2/3 of my land in the South Meadow, to be ewqually divided between tem and also the remaining 2/3 of the moveable estate. I appoint my daughter Sarah Smith my sole executrix. – Arthur Smith – Witness: John Stanley sen. Thomas Richards.2
His will was probated on 2 February 1712/13. The will was presented to the court and approved.2 Arthur departed this life before 3 February 1712/13 in Hartford. The inventory of Arthur's estate was taken on Friday, 3 February 1712/13 by John Stanley, Thomas Richards and Stephen Brace. They appraised the value of the estate to be £272 15s. 4d.3
