Samuel was born in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was christened there on 3 July 1664 in the "Shepard's & Mitchell's Church". Samuel made his will on 1 February 1742 at Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut.
He gave considerable land to his brothers & nephews before he died. He wiledl all his property to them making no mention of children of his own. His brother, Thomas, dying before him, the land willed to said Thomas was afterwards distributed among the heirs of his brothers & sisters. There was no mention of his sister, Sarah Shepard Stone.
Samuel departed this life in Hartford. His will was probated on 2 April 1745.
