M, b. 1600, d. 25 January 1672
Louis was born in 1600 in Montreuil-sur-Brêche, Oise, Picardie, France. Louis left his birth place and moved to Gif-sur-Yvette, a small town to the southwest of Paris, where he found employment as a gardner. Louis married Marie Challe-Charier circa 1626 in Gif-sur-Yvette, Ile-de-France, France. Louis's wife, Marie, died before 1633 in Montreuil-sur-Brêche leaving him a widower. A contract was drawn up by notary Jacques de Saint-Vaast for the marriage of Louis and Marie Grimoult. It was signed on 12 August 1636 in the parish of St-Jacques and St-Philippe, Paris, Ile-de-France, France. It was agreed to in the contract that Louis’ children by his first marriage would be supported and cared for by Marie until the children reached the age of 15 years..2 They were soon married there at St-Jacques-du-Haut-Pas Church . Louis, Marie & his daughter, Marie, left France in 1637 for Quebec. Soon after arriving. Once in Quebec, Louis signed a contract with the the investors of the Company of One Hundred Associates to clear and plant land. It was not work he particularly cared for, but he did the work well enough that the company resigned a contract with him three years later, in 1640. In 1645, he received land from the governor where he settled with his family. Later, as his family grew, he obtained more land where he could. 1666, Louis and Marie were listed on the Canadian Census in Comte de Quebec, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Louis Cedillot [66 years], Marie Grimont [60 years], Jean [19 years], & servants: Jacques Dubois [23 years] & Francois Pelletier [18 years].3 1667, Louis and Marie were listed on the Canadian Census. Enumerated in this household were Louis Cedillot [66 years], Marie Grimont [60 years], Jean [19 years] & servants: Jacques Dubois [23 years] & Francois Pelletier [18 years]. He is listed as owning 34 acres and 3 cattle.4 Not long after the census, he moved to Cote St-Jean. Louis departed this life on Monday, 25 January 1672 in ville de Quebec at age 72 years. - [S1608] Louis Sedilot, Sédilot was born about 1599 or 1600 at Montreuil-sur-Brêche, France, and moved to Gif-sur-Yvette, Île-de-France where he worked as a gardener.
He married Marie Challe Charier in 1626, and they had one child, Marie (1627–84). At some point prior to 1636, the elder Marie died and Sédilot found himself widowed. In 1636, Sédilot remarried, taking as his wife Marie Grimoult. Their wedding was held in Saint Remy, France. In 1637 Sédilot travelled with his wife and daughter to Québec, where he obtained work from the Company of One Hundred Associates clearing and planting land. He appears to have been successful at this work as his contract was renewed in 1640. In 1645 Sédilot received land from Governor Charles de Montmagny, which he settled on with his family. By this stage Sédilot and Grimoult had had further children, and in order to provide lands for his sons, Sédilot acquired further land from Louis d'Ailleboust in 1651, and from Le Vicomte d'Argenson in 1660. In 1667, census records show that he owned 34 acres of cropland and three cattle.
Sédilot died January 25, 1672, and he was buried the following day at Notre-Dame-de-Québec.
