Thomas Savage
M, b. 1608, d. 15 February 1683
Thomas was born in 1608. He was apprenticed at Merchants Tailors in London before immigrating to Boston in the ship Planter; sailing from London 2 April 1635.1 He was first married to Faith, the daughter of William and Ann [Marbury] Hutchinson, [8/14/1617-2/20/1652]. Thomas married Mary Symmes, daughter of Reverend Zachariah Symmes and Sarah Baker, on 15 September 1652 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, by by Increase Nowell.2 Thomas and Mary had children: Sarah [6/25/1653-] [m. Hon. John Higginson], Zecharaih [12/26/1654-8/23/1656], Ebenezer & Benjamin.3 Thomas made his will on 28 June 1675 at Boston. Thomas wrote his will on the same day that he marched off to fight in King Phillip's War.
He gives to wife Mary Savage the use of his new house at Hog Island, with the new garden and orchard, forty acres of marsh, five cows, two oxen, eight swine and seventy sheep, divers articles of house-keeping goods, sheets, beds, etc., also a negro maid. To his daughter Hannah Gilliam, £150, and £50 to each of her three children. To his son Thomas Savage, £150, and £50 to each of his three children. To his daughter Mary Tacher, £150, and £50 to each of her four children. To his grandson Thomas Savage, son of Habiah Savage, deceased, £150, and £50 to each of his two daughters. To Habiah's widow, Hannah, £50. To the testor's son Ephraim Savage, £150, and £50 to each of his three children. To the testator's daughter Higginson, all the land in Salem Town, or £200, whichever she may choose. To her daughter Mary Higginson, £50. To the testator's daughter Dinnice (Dionysia), £100. to his son Ebenezer, £300. To his son Benjamin, £300. To his son Perez, £300. Total, £2830, besides the house, farm, etc.4
Thomas departed this life on Monday, 15 February 1683 in Boston at age 75 years.1 He was buried there in King's Chapel Burying Ground. His will was probated on 23 February 1683.
