Phoebe was born in Lavenham, County Suffolk, England. On 1 May 1626, she was christened in Little Waldingfield, County Suffolk, England, at St. Lawrence Church.
1 They first settled at Charlestown, Massacusetts. On 1April1633, her father was convicted of stealing & she was bound to Mr. John Coxshall for 14 years. Mr. Coxshall was to have a sow with her and at the end of her time he is to give her a cow calf. By order of the court, she was freed from John Goggshell on 6 June 1637. Soon after, she & her father removed to New Amsterdam. In 1630, Phoebe immigrated from England with her father on the Winthrop fleet. Phoebe Jans married
Theunis Nyssen (?), son of
Nys Denyse (?) and
Helena van Brunt, on 11 February 1640 at the New Amsterdam Reformed Dutch Church in the City, County & State of New York. Phoebe was noted as being of Jarleston [probably Charlestown] & Theunis was of Bunninck [possibly Brunswick].
2 She and Theunis were blessed with 8 children. Phoebe's husband, Theunis, died before August 1663 in New York, leaving her a widow. Phoebe Jans married 2nd
Jan Corneliszen Buys on 24 August 1663 in Midout, New York. Jan was first married to Eybe Lubbertse and third to Willemtie Thyssen.
3 Phoebe departed this life before 13 December 1666 in Flatbush, in the Town of Brooklyn, Kings County, Long Island, New York. She was buried at Flatbush, Kings County, Long Island, New York, in the Reformed Dutch Church.
