Katherine Roet

Katherine was born circa 1350 in Somme, Picardie, France. She was the daughter of Payn de Roet, Sir Knight Guienne, King of Arms b. circa 1310 in Hanault, Belgium. Katherine married Hugh Ottes Swynford circa 1366 in Westminister [Greater London], County Middlesex, England, at St. Clement Danes Church.1 John Plantagenet hired Katherine as governess to her children. John's wife, Blanche, who was ailing at the time, had Katherine's daughter, Blanche, put in with her daughters. Katherine's husband, Hugh, died circa 1370, leaving her a widow. Katherine married 2nd John of Gaunt - House of Plantagenet, son of Edward III - House of Plantagenet - , King of England and Phillipa - Queen of England, on 13 January 1397 in Rochefort-Sur-Mer, Charente-Maritime, France. She was Dutchess of Lancaster. Katherine's husband, John, died on 3 February 1399 in Leicester Castle, Leicester, Leicestershire, England, leaving her a widow. Katherine departed this life on Tuesday, 10 May 1403 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England. She was laid to rest in the Catheral, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England, beside her daughter, Joan.2 Her sister, Philippa Roet m. Geoffrey Chaucer, the poet. They were the great, great grandparents of Henry VII.
