Henry Atwood

     Henry was born circa 1620 in London, County Middlesex, England, at their home on Chancery Lane. Like his brothers, he usually used the surname Wood. He & his brothers, Stephen & John, came to Plymouth in 1635 with their Uncle John Atwood. On 16 August 1641, Henry and Stephen were granted 8 acres of land at Loute Pond Then in 1643, the brothers were all given the priviledge to bear arms.¹ Henry married Abgail Jenny on 28 April 1644 in Middleboro, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts.^2,3 Henry and Abigail had children: Sarah [1645-3/04/1675/76] [m. 11/28/1667 John Nelson], John [-<10/29/1673] [unmarried, Samuel [5/25/1647-2/03/1718], Jonathan [1/01/1649/50-<3/07/1675/76], David [10/17/1651-10/31/1711] [m. 3/05/1685 Mary Combs], Joseph [1653-2/12/1697/98] [twin] [m. 1/01/1679/80 Hester Walker & 2nd. 10/02/1697 Abgail Paul], Benjamin [1653-1690] [twin-unmarried], Abigail [ 1656] [m. David Thomas Jr.], Abiel [1658-10/10/1719] [m. 3/21/1746 Abiah Bowen], James [-<12/21/1728] [m. 4/12/1693 Experience Fuller], Susanna [m. 3/08/1686 Josiah Morton & 2nd. 1694 Deacon Clark] & Mary [m. Joseph Deane].⁴ The three brothers then were admitted as freemen on 1 June 1647 and in 1648 they were jointly granted 3 acres of land adjacent to Henry's land at Loute Pond. Henry departed this life in Middleboro. The inventory of Henry's estate was taken on Tuesday, 30 September 1670. The inventory was taken by John Morton, Jonathan Dunham, Francis Combe and George Vaughan. The estate was valued at 63.3.3 pounds. His will was probated on 29 October 1670. His widow, Abigail, gave oath to the court.
