Victor Montieth Pollock
     Victor Montieth was born on Saturday, 23 August 1879 in the Village of Bronte, Trafalgar Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada.3 Victor moved with his parents from Bronte, Ontario, soon after his birth, to a small farm on the outskirts of Elora. By the time he was nine months, he was living in Cheboygan, Michigan. By 1895, he was living at 260 Second Street in Detroit with his parents. In 1896, Victor was a clerk for Arthur Santo. In 1898, Victor was working as a butcher. In 1901, he was working for Martindale & Co. Between 1901 & 1902, he was residing at 332 Howard with his parents. In 1903, he is still a ckerk. On 1 May 1905, Victor started working as an electrician for the Detroit Edison Company as its 75th employee. In 1906, Victor is an electrician. By 1907, his parents had moved back to Canada & he is renting a room at 27 Labrosse from George Lemire. In 1909, he is renting at 156 Fifth Ave. By 1 July 1910, Victor has moved to Pontiac. 16 April 1910, the U.S. Federal Census lists Victor was residing in a rooming house at 166 5th Street [near Labrosse], Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Edward G. Babock [66 Canadian English], his wife, Ida M. [46 New York], & lodgers: Ray H. Cornell [26 Indiana], his wife, Bertha B. Cornell [21 Michigan], Victor Pollock [_X_ Canada-English, immigrated 1880, single], & several others. Edward's 2nd marriage and her 1st. They had been married 13 years. Victor is an electrian for the power company.4 Victor married Ethel Meraw, daughter of Louis-Treffle Merand and Harriett Pelland dit Beausoliel, on 2 July 1910 in Detroit. After their marriage, they Established themselves in Birmingham, Oakland County, Michigan.5 After their marriage, Victor & Ethel resided at 142 South Woodward at Merrill Street. In 1920, they built a new home at 619 Vinewood. In 1929, Victor suffered a severe fall from an electrical post. He had a glass instrument left in him after he had gone through surgery for his fall. This resulted in him becoming paralyzed. His last day of employment was noted as 1 November 1929. 6 February 1920, Victor and his wife, Ethel, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Birmingham, Bloomfield Township at 142 South Woodward Avenue. Enumerated in this household were Victor M. Pollock [38 Canada], his wife, Ethel M. [31 Canada], children: Robert V. [5 Michigan], Phillip M. [6 mos. Michigan], and William L. Farmer [64 Ohio].6 After Victor's accident, the family had to rent their home on Vinewood & rent one at 386 East Maple in the city of Birmingham. 22 April 1930, Victor and his wife, Ethel, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Birmingham, Bloomfield Township at 386 East Maple Street. Enumerated in this household were Victor M. Pollock [48 Canada, Scotland & England], his wife: Ethel M. [40 Canada, Canada & Canada], children: Robert V. [15 Michigan], Philip M. [10 Michigan]. They were renting a place for $55. Victor became a citizen in 1884 & Ethel became citizen in 1908.7 Victor departed this life on Monday, 28 August 1944 in Birmingham, Bloomfield Township at the family home at 619 Vinewood at age 65 years and 5 days. He was buried there in Southfield, Southfield Township in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. He is buried in Section 15, Lot 65, Grave 11.
