George Pollock
     George was born on Wednesday, 17 April 1850 in Toronto, York County, Ontario, Canada. George married Charlotte Colton, daughter of Thomas Bethel Colton and Eliza Chester, on 24 September 1872 in the Village of Bronte, Trafalgar Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada.4 George & Charlotte were raised in Bronte, Ontario. About 1880, upon the urging of Charlotte's sister Sarah, they removed to a small farm on the outskirts of Elora, Ontario in Nichol Township. Soon after, George's job as a ship's captain took the family to reside in the United States at Cheboygan, Michigan by June of 1880. While there, George became a 32nd degree Mason. On 11 April 1887, George & Charlotte purchased 50 acres in Nichol Township on concession 13 lot 19 from John Scott for $1,800.00. In the early 1890's, the family returned to reside at their farm for a short time. By 1895, the family was living at 260 Second Street, Detroit, Michigan. Between 1901 & 1902, the family moved to 332 Howard in Detroit. They are last found there in 1906. The family had moved back to their farm in Elora which they had been renting during their stay in the U.S. Charlotte continued to reside there on the farm until her death. On 14 December 1917, Charlotte purchased an adjacent 50 acres of land from George W. Fisher. On 30 April 1931. the land was sold to Herbert Scott for $2900.00. 1 April 1880, George and his wife, Charlotte, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Cheboygan, Benton Township, Cheboygan County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were George Pollock [30 Canada], his wife, Charlotte [26 Canada], children: George H. [4 Canada], & Victor M. [7 mos. Canada].5 1 June 1900, George and his wife, Charlotte, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, at 260 Second Street. Enumerated in this household were George Pollock [April 1850 - 50 Canada, Scotland & Canada/English], his wife, Charlotte [December 1853 - 46 Canada, England & England], children: George H. [November 1875 - 24 Canada], & Victor M. [August 1879 - 20 Canada]. George & Charlotte were married 27 years with 2 children, 2 living. They rented their home and took in borders. George was a sailor.6 George made his will on 14 July 1904.

This is the last will & testament of me, George Pollock of the City of Detroit in the County of Wayne, State of Michigan, made the 14th of July in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and four as follows. I give, devise, and bequeath unto my wife Charlotte Pollock of the aforesaid City of Detroit in the County of Wayne and State of Michigan, all and singular the property known as the southwest half of lot number 19 in the thirteenth concession of the Township of Nichol in the County of Wellington, in the Province of Ontario being fifty acres more or less and all my other real or personal property and effects whatsoever and whatsoever that I may seized or possessed of, to and for her absolute use and benefit. Subject only to the payment of debts and funeral expenses, and charges for proving and registering this my Will. And I appoint the said Charlotte, my wife, sole execturiz of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name George Pollock Witnesses: T. Hayne and William F. Moore.

George died on Thursday, 17 October 1907 in Nichol Township, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada, at age 57 years and 6 months of angina pectoris.

Obituary: Death of Capt. George Pollock After an illness of over an year Capt. George Pollock died at his residence in Nichol, near Elora, on Thursday night, Oct. 17th. His malady is known as angina pectoris, and for several months past it has been known to his friends that it must terminate fatally. Capt. Pollock was a native of Toronto, and had reached the age of 55 years and 6 months. He was married on Sept. 24th 1872, to Miss Charlotte Colton, of Bronte, Ontario. Capt. Pollock had for forty years been a sailor on the Great Lakes, having 21 years ago attained the rank of Captain. He sailed from Daluth to Buffalo. Two years ago he gave up life on the wave for a quiet life in the country, and settled on the farm near Elora, where he died. There are left to morn his loss a widow and two sons, the latter being George H. at home; and Victor, of Detroit; to them and Miss Colton.
Capt. and Mrs. Pollock, public Sympathy is extended. The deceased was a member of Cheboygan Lodge Michigan A. F. & A. M., and the funeral on Sunday was conducted with Masonic honors by Irvine Lodge Elora. Bro. Rev. A. D. Robb conducted the service at the house and at the grave. The Masonic service at the house was conducted by W. M. Dr. Roberson. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Thos. Godfrey, John Gibb, Wm. Griffin, A. K. P, MacDonald, I. Kerfoot, J. Busoroth, Bro. Jim Wells acted as martial, with a large ontrage of citizens followed the remains to their last resting place in the Elora Cemetery.7

He was buried there in Elora Cemetery in plot A1-14.8
