Robert de was born in 1383 in Spofforth Parish, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, at the Ville de Plumpton.
. Robert married Alice Foljambe, daughter of Sir Godfrey Foljambe, on 13 January 1403 in England. Robert was knighted before 15 January 1411, and was choosen to represent Yorkshire in the Parliament of that year. Among other titles Robert was Steward of the Forest of Knaresborough as well as Senechal of the Honour. He was in the service of his King at the time of his death.
Robert was killed in battle at the siege of Meaux on Saturday, 8 December 1421 at age 38 years. He was buried at Spofforth Parish, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, in Spofforth Church.
