Johann Andreas Peterman

     Johann Andreas was born on Wednesday, 19 February 1766 in Windsor Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He was christened there after 19 February 1766 in Kreutz Creek Reformed Church. His sponsors were Andreas Lang & Mary Magdalena Lorrey.¹ Andrew married Elizabeth Risinger circa 1787 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Andrew & Elizabeth had children: John [1788-3/12/1873][m. Catherine Lutes], Henry [1792-3/17/1877], Catherine [1798], Jacob [1799-19/30/1839], George 4/30/1800-3/15/1878][m. Elizabeth Strock] & David [1804-8/07/1859]. The 1800 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Sommerset Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, the family of Andrew Peterman [3101:1001].² The 1810 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Sommerset Township the family of Andrew Peterman [1111:0001].³ On Monday, 10 January 1814 this article appeared in the Washington Reporter -"Caution. Whereas my wife, Elizabeth Peterman, has left my bed and board, without any just cause, this is, therefore, to caution the public against crediting her on my account, as I will pay no depts of her contracting after this date. Andrew Peterman. Sommerset Township."⁴ Johann's wife, Elizabeth, died in 1818 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, leaving him a widower. Andrew married 2nd Mary Evans on 19 November 1837 in Ripley County, Indiana. 30 August 1850, Andrew was listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Washington Township, Ripley County, Indiana. Enumerated in this household were Andrew Peterman [85 Pensylvania] & Mary [61 Virginia].⁵ Andrew made his will on 27 September 1852 at Ripley County.

In the name of the Lord, amen. I Andrew Peterman of the county of Ripley, State of Indiana do make this as my last will and testament hereby evoking all other wills here to fore made by me.
I will that as soon after my death as possible all my debts and funeral expenses be paid, and that my beloved wife Mary
posses, use, and enjoy all the lands and personal property of which I may die seized & possessed, to her own use, to be by her enjoyed during her live - and to sell the same and trade with, in any manner whatever and to make, execute such deed or deeds in fee simple or otherwise as to her shall seem best. I also will to her and her use all the moneys, bonds, notes, writing obligatory and other evidences of debt. After the death of my said wife I will that what property or money remains undisposed of by her, shall be equally divided between my two sons, George & David - I hereby appoint my wife & friend Henry S. Christian Executor and Executrix of this my last will and testament this 27th Sept. 1852.
