Thankful was born in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. On 29 April 1644, she was christened in Dorchester. The 29th day of the 2nd month of 1644. Thankful married Thomas Bird Jr. on 6 December 1665 in Dorchester. Thomas & Thankful had children: Joseph, Thankful, Sarah, Anne, Thomas, Mary, Submit, Mercy, Patience, Patience & Benjamin. Thankful's husband, Thomas, died on 30 January 1710 in Dorchester leaving her a widow. Thankful departed this life on Tuesday, 11 April 1719 in Dorchester at age 74 years, 11 months and 13 days. She was buried there in the Dorchester North Burying Ground. The epitath on her stone reads: "Here lies buried ye body of Thankful Bird, ye widow of Thomas Bird aged about 77 years died April ye 11 1719".
