Joseph was born in Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was christened there on 18 March 1659 in First Church of Christ. Joseph married Martha Porter on 3 January 1686 in Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut, at First Church of Christ. Joseph lived in his father's house. Joseph made his will on 24 April 1724. In his will he states that he has no children and that he has already deeded his freehold estate to his newphew Joseph Woodruff. The remainder of his estate he leaves to his wife, Martha, and to her heirs. Joseph departed this life in January 1731 in Farmington. The inventory of Joseph's estate was taken on Tuesday, 30 January 1731 at Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut.
