     John was born in 1615 in England. On 9 May 1635, John left London aboard the ship, "Susan and Ellen", under the command of Captain Edward Payne, bound for New England. Among the passengers was listed John North aged 20 years. They landed at Boston the 9th of May..4,5,6 John originally settled in Ipswich under the leadership of Richard Saltenstall as did several other families arriving on the "Susan and Ellen". He is recorded as a land owner there in 1637. John married Mary Bird, daughter of Thomas Bird, on 9 January 1640 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts. John appears on records there in Ipswich until 1646 when he sells his property. He apparently removed from Ipswich to Connecticut shortly thereafter. By 1652, he and his family had settled in Farmington where he remained the remainder of his life. John and his wife were members of the Farmington Church. She became a member in 1656. John was made a freeman of Connecticut on 21 May 1657.1 He and his two sons, John and Samuel, were 3 of the 84 original proprietors of Farmington who divided unoccupied lands in 1672. John departed this life before 12 February 1692 in Farmington. The inventory of John's estate was taken on Tuesday, 12 February 1691/92 at Farmington by John Thompson and John Orton. They appraised the valued of his estate to be £224 11s.7 On 3 March 1691/92, his estate was distributed by Thomas North as the following: Thomas North £69 16s, - Joseph North £24 18s. - Mary Searles £27 18s. - Sarah Woodruff & children £31 8s.7
