     John was born circa 1646 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts. On 14 May 1666, John Mowery and Edward Inman bought 2000 acres of land from William Minnion of Punskepage, Massachusetts on part of what is now Woonsocket. These two and John’s brother, Nathaniel were the first proprietors of the settlement here that became known as Sayles Hill and also Mowery Hill.2 John and Mary had children: Mary, John, Experience & Sarah.3 John married Mary (?) in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island. John died on Friday, 7 July 1690 in Sayles Hill, Providence County, Rhode Island, of smallpox and was buried with his wife on their farm.4 The inventory of John's estate was taken. The inventory showed that his property was appraised at £66, 3s. 4d. His brother, Nathaniel was appointed administrator of the estate. After the payment of all debts there remained to be divided among the heirs £48, 10s.
