1. [S1092] J. H. Morrison, Underhills of Warwickshire, page 76 - "Dirck" was a common Dutch adaptation of the English name Richard ("Dick") and "Thomas" seems in this case to have been another adaptation, on the analogy of a Dutch patronymic ("Thomasz") meaning "son of Thomas". Dirch Thomas appears to have been indentical with Richard Morris: for (1) the Betrhothal Books at theHague show that on January 2,1622, banns were published between Richart Mauritz swordcutler, young man from England, and Janneken Winter from England; and again on April 19, 1626, betweeen Rithard Maurits swordcutler, widower, from England and Beatrix Coets, youn maiden from England, both dwelling in the Hague; and (2) the American records show that Richard Morris and Leonora, his wife arrived in Salem in the summer of 1630, at the same time as Capt. John Underhill, and that Capt. John's sister Lettice, wife of Richard Buglar, was Richard Morris's "daughter in law"
   (= step daughter).

[S115] Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, Showing Three Generations Of Those Who Came Before May, 1692, On The Basis Of Farmer's Registar, Volume III - Richard, [Morris] Boston 1630, came prob. in the fleet with Winthrop as he and wife Lenora were very early of the church Nos. 64 and 5, and he was made freeman 18 May 1631, with the title of serj. And so perhaps a hired officer, became Lieut. at Roxbury soon after and was representative 1635, ar. Co. 1637, but favoring the cause of Rev. Wheelwright, and was disarmed and with that heresiarch went to Exeter, 1638.

Shelley, John Underhill Captain of New England and New, page 102 - …The Hague set forth that, on the date mentioned, “Leonora Onderheil, widow of John Onderheil, both from England, and dwelling at The Hague” was betrothed to “Dirck Thomas, swordcutler”; and that the marriage was performed by E. Modeus on the 28^th of November, 1628.
