Mathurin Moreau
M, b. circa 9 April 1641
Mathurin was born in Champdenier-Saint-Denis, Deux-Sèvres, Poitou-Charentes, France. He was christened there on 9 April 1641 in Notre Dame de Champdeniers. In 1664, Mathurin left France aboard the ship, "Noir-de-Hollande", arriving at Quebec on 25 May. On arrival, he was a servant for Pierre Maufay, and later established himself at Cote Ste-Genevieve near Quebec. A contract for the marriage of Mathurin and Marie Girard was signed on 8 May 1667. It was written by the Notary Gilles Rageot. It was noted in the contract that the groom's parents were Louis Moreau & Jeanne Laurence, and that he was baptised at Notre Dame de Champdeniers in Poitiers. Also that the bride was a widow of Antoine Rouillard and that her parents were Michel Girard and Charlotte Desnoyers.1 Mathurin and Marie had children: Louis [3/09/1668-10/25/1735][m. 3/29/1693 Marie Catherine Bonhomme dit Beaupre], Valentin [8/01/1670], Michel [5/13/1673-3/__/1726][m. 10/18/1693 Marie Madeleine Belleau LaRose] & Jeanne Therese [2/22/1675-2/28/1675].2
