Enos was born in Blooming Grove, Orange County, New York. He was christened there on 7 January 1761 in ther First Presbyterian Church. He was the son of Samuel Mapes and Mary Smith. Enos married Irena Vail, daughter of Isaiah Vail and Abigail Meeker, on 26 March 1783 in Goshen, Orange County, New York, at the First Presbyterian Church. 1783, March 27 - Enos Mapes & Irene Vail.2 Enos was a farmer. He settled the "Mile Square" tract which he helped his father to clear from the wilderness. He was one of the executors of his father's estate. Enos was buried in the Mapes Burying Ground, Howells, the town of Wallkill, Orange County, New York. His will was probated on 22 April 1843 at Goshen, Orange County, New York. Before Judge George Grier. The degree states that the deceased was of Wallkill and was signed by the executors, Nathaniel and Gabriel B. Mapes.

On Mar. 26, 1783 he married Irene Vail, daughter of Isaiah (Josiah, John, and Jeremiah) Vail. She was born July 19 , 1763 and died Feb. 15, 1848 .
