Gabriel Leggett

M, b. 21 November 1743, d. 23 May 1838
     Gabriel was born the 21 day of the 9th month 1743 at West Farms, Westchester County, New York. He was the son of Thomas Leggett and Mary Embree. Gabriel was probably married first about 1767. The name of his wife is unknown. Gabriel and his wife had children: Benjamin [ca 1768], Thomas [ca 1770], Samuel [1772] [m. Marian] & Gabriel [ca 1774].1 In about 1776, Gabriel settled on a farm near Stillwater, Saratoga County, New York with his father. He is listed on the tax rolls there is 1779 as well as his brother Isaac. He & his brother Isaac were the founders of the Society of Friend there. Gabriel married in Saratoga, Albany County, New York.2 Gabriel and Bridget had children: Rebecca [m. 30d 3m 1803 Bernjamin Hoag], and a son. The 1790 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Stillwater, Albany County, New York, the family of Gabriel Leggett [41:4].3 Gabriel and his brother,Isaac, as well as their brother-in-law Thomas Wilber were founders of the Quaker Society in Saratoga Township in the 1790's.4 The 1800 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Stillwater, Saratoga County, New York, the family of Gabriel Leggett [10201:01301].5 The 1810 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Stillwater, Saratoga County, New York, the family of Gabriel Leggett [00110:01010].6 Gabriel's wife, Bridget, died on 16 April 1813 in Stillwater, Saratoga County, New York, leaving him a widow.7 Gabriel married third the 11th day of the 12th month 1816 in Saratoga.8 The 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Stillwater, Saratoga County, New York, the family of Gabriel Leggett 200023:00102.9 On 24 January 1834, his brother, Thomas, wrote in his will to authorize and direct my executors and survivors off them to advance to mt brother, Gabriel Leggett, such sums as in their judgement shall be requisite for his comfortable maintenance and support during his llfe. Gabriel departed this life on Wednesday, 23 May 1838 in Stillwater at age 94 years, 6 months and 2 days.10

Listed right below Gabriel is lisisted Benjamin Leggett [1 male 16 & over, one male under 16 and one female] who is presumed to be Grabriel's eldest son. This would give Gabriel 4 son, 16 or over.
