Edward was born in Yorkshire, England. He was the son of John Jessop and Joanna (?) Edward immigrated from Yorkshire, England to Connecticut. He first appears in America as a land owner on Sascoe Neck in the town of Fairfield, Connecticut in 1653. He emigrated from there to Westchester. He was one of the original patentees of West Farms. Edward married Elizabeth Bridges circa 1658 in England. Edward departed this life in 1666 in West Farms, Westchester County, New York.3 Edward made his will on 6 August 1666 at West Farms, Westchester County, New York.
Being sicke and weake in Body, yet in perfect memory, I Bequeath my soul to ye Almighty God that gave it, and my body after death to be decently buried my funeral to be discharged and my debts to be paid. I will and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Hunt twenty shillings besides what I have already given her, to be paid in a year and a day after my decease. I will and bequeath unto my daughter Hannah Jessop the sum of five and thirty pounds with what she has already, to be paid unto her at eighteen years of age. I will and bequeath unto my sonne Edward Jessop two mares with two colts by their sides; one a gray mare and the other is a mare marked on both ears with two half pence on each ear, to be set out for him for his use a year and a day after my decease. - - - I will and bequeath unto Derrick Gasson a Cow calf to bee paid unto him in a year and a day after my decease. - - - Furthermore I constitute and appoint my well beloved wife Elizabeth Jessop to be whole and sole executrix, and I do will and bequeath unto her all my lands and houses, and goods, and cattle moveable and unmovable of this my last will and testament, and to receive all debts , dues and demands whatsoever, and she to bring up my two children in the feare of God. - - - This I do owne as my last will and testament and doe disclayme all other Wills, Guifts, Grants or such like which may any wise trouble or molest her hereafter, as being of none Effect. - - - Further I do appoint my well beloved friends Mr. Richard Cornhill, justice of the peace, Mrs. Sarah Bridges, my well beloved brother-in-law John Burroughs, and Ralph Hunt as overseers of this my last will and testament, likewise to be assistants to my executrix in all cases and difficulties, and this I do owne as my own act and deed, to all true intents and meaning, and doe furthermore ratify and confirm it as my owne act and deed by setting to my hand and seal, the day and year underwritten. - - - August the 6th , 1666 - - - Edward Jessop - - - Signed, sealed, and Delivered in the presence of witnesses, Will Gouldstone, John Richardson, The mark of Richard Horton.4
