Abel Holbrook1

M, b. circa 1653, d. 5 May 1747
     Abel was born circa 1653 at Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, being the first white child born there. He was the son of Richard Holbrook and Agnes (?) In 1675, he was among the first twenty-three to settle in Derby, Connecticut. He was a tavern keeper. Abel married Hanna Merwin on 20 September 1683 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut. Abel & Hanna had children: Richard [12/24/1684-5/03/1709][m. 6/09/1708 Ester Nichols], Israel [5/29/1692-3/11/1693], Abigail [11/25/1694-5/05/1709], John [10/19/1699][m. 8/27/1723 Abigail Gunn], Abel [1701][m. 1/29/1723 Tabitha Wooster], Daniel [1704][m. 1/22/1729 Elizabeth Riggs], Ruth [m. 2/--/1728 Thomas Piersons]. Abel's wife, Hanna, died on 20 October 1740 in Derby leaving him a widower.2 Abel married 2nd Sarah Platt after 20 October 1740 in New Haven County, Connecticut. Abel departed this life on Friday, 5 May 1747 in Derby, New Haven County, Connecticut.
