Joseph Hawkins

     Joseph was born on Thursday, 3 April 1642 in Charlestown, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.1 Joseph married Abigail Holbrook, daughter of Richard Holbrook and Agnes (?), on 8 April 1668 in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Joseph & Abigail had children: Joseph [2/14/1669], Eleazer [12/12/1670], Abigail [2/02/1672], Robert [7/04/1675-7/18/1675], Mary [6/10/1677], John [9/28/1678-12/09/1691], Lois [11/06/1681] & Agnes [11/06/1681].2 Joseph made his will on 12 October 1682 at Derby, New Haven County, Connecticut.

The last will and Testament of Joseph Hawkins of Derby in the county of New Haven & colony of Connecticut . . . he gives to his wife the quiet & peaceful possession of all his lands until his sons, Joseph & Eleazer come to the age of 21. At arriving at the age of 21, each to receive 1/3 of the lands and each to receive a home lot, Abigail to have the remaining 1/3. Abigail, his wife is to pay to each of their four daughters, Abigail, Mary, Lois and Agnes £10 when they marry. Joseph & Eleazer each to pay the daughters £5. His wife, Abigail to be the sole executrix with Samuel Rigs, William Tomlinson and Abel Gunn to be overseers. Witnesses: Henry Williams & Ama Penny.3

Joseph departed this life on Friday, 6 November 1682 in Derby at age 40 years, 7 months and 3 days.3 The inventory of Joseph's estate was taken on Monday, 4 January 1682/83. By John Hulls and Isaac Nichols. They appraised the estate to be valued at £482 3s.3
