Sarah (?)

F, b. circa 1650, d. after 10 April 1740
     Sarah was born circa 1650.1 Sarah married Samuel Hoyt [Haight] I, son of Nicholas Hoyt and Susanna (?), circa 1671 in Eastchester, Westchester County, New York. In 1668, he disappears from the records in Windsor and by 1672 is found on records in East Chester. He removed from East Chester to after Oct. 1682 and before May of 1686 during this time he had appeared in Flushing. In 1695, Samuel, along with four other men became original patentees of Harrison's Purchase in Westchester County. He was the first of family to use the name "Haight". He was an influencial leader of the Quaker community in Flushing. 1698, Samuel and Sarah and her husband, [ROF:Flushing Town] were listed on the Flushing Town Census; Sam'll Haight, Sarah his wife, sons: Nicholas, Jonathan, David, John, daughters: Sarah, Mary, Hannah, Phebe and one negro. Sarah's husband, Samuel, died before 21 October 1712 in the Town of Flushing, leaving her a widow.2 Sarah departed this life after 10 April 1740 in the Town of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, New York. She was noted in her son John's will on this date.

  1. [S506] Note: There is a written record stating that William Noble was the father-in-law of Samuel Haight. In the same record is a quote that states that William had no issue of his own body. This may have met that William had no male issue to inherit his lands. William's wife, Mary, may have been the mother of Sarah, making William Sarah's step father. It is also possible that she was adopted by the Nobles. If any of this is true, Sarah's maiden name could have been Noble. At present, Sarah's maiden name must remain unknown. There is definitely a relationship between Samuel and William even after his death as Samuel is in charge of the estate and is the one petitioning the court in matters relating to William's will. - KLM.
