John Embree
M, b. circa 1730, d. before 11 April 1785
John was born in Hempstead Town, Queens County, Long Island, New York. He was the son of Samuel Embree II and Abigail Rowland. John and Susannah had children: Father of Mary, Robert, Stephen [m. 2/05/1776 Hannah Embree], Anna [m. Willam Nelson], Isaac [5/10/1763] [m. Hannah Badgley] & John Jr. John married Susannah Leggett. John made his will on 20 January 1784.
In the name of God Amen – I John Embree of West Farms in the Borough and County of Westchester and State of New York yeoman being weak in body but of sound disposing mind and memory thanks be to the Almighty God for it but calling unto mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed unto all men once to die I do make and ordain this my last Will and testament - - - Imprimis my soul I recommend into the ands of the Almighty God that gave it my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors and as for my worldly estate I give dispose and bequeath in the following manner Viz: it is my will and do ordain that all my just debts and funeral charges be fully satisfied and paid Item I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Stephen Embree the sum of five pounds current money of New York over and above his equal share in my estate Item I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Mary and Anna the sum of ten pounds each like current money aforesaid these legacies to be paid by my Executors as soon as they conveniently can after the sale of my estate Item It is my will and do ordain that all the remainder of my estate real and personal be sold and equally divided share and share alike amongst my four sons Stephen, Robert, Isaac and John Embrees in case any of my said sons should die without issue before the division of my estate that then their share or shares shall be equally divided amongst the survivors of my said sons or their children Item I do ordain Constitute and appoint my two sons Stephen and Isaac Embrees and my friend Levi Hunt of West Farms County and State aforesaid Executors of this my Last Will and testament and I do hereby revoke and disallow and disannul other wills legacies testaments and Executors by me in anyways made ordained Willed or bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentieth day of January Annoque Domini one thousand seven hundred and eighty four - - - Signature of John Embree - - - signed Sealed published and declared by the Testator John Embree to be his last will and testament in the presence of Eden Hunt John Embree Robert Gilman.1
