Joseph Covell

     Joseph was born circa 1675 in Monomoit, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Nathaniel Covell II and Sarah Nickerson. Joseph married Lydia Stewart, daughter of Hugh Stewart and Waitstill Denne, circa 1700 in Massachusetts. Joseph's farm was on the easst side of Muddy Cove and extended east to the present road from the old cemeteries over to the late Rufus Smith's. It was a part of the old William Nickerson farm. There is no record of his death or of his children and no settlement of his estate. He was living as late at 1732 but does not appear in the tax lists of 1755. Joseph's wife, Lydia, died circa 12 July 1701 in Chatham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, leaving him a widower; She probably died from complications of giving birth to her daughter Lydia. Her husband remarried on 1 March 1702. Joseph married Hannah Bassett on 1 March 1702 in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.
