Henry Townsend Carpenter1

Henry Townsend was born on Sunday, 15 August 1802 in Cornwall, Orange County, New York. He was the son of Townsend Carpenter and Elizabeth Truesdell. He married Anna Brown circa 1829 at Elmira, Chemung Township, Tioga County, New York, at Anna's parent's home. 16 August 1850, Henry and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Elmira Township. Enumerated in this household were Henry Carpenter [48 New York], his wife: Ann [42 New Jersey], Ester Baldwin [26 New York], Ester Brown [16 New York], Mary Brown [30 New Jersey], & Lettie Harris [10 New York].2 10 July 1860, Henry and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. Enumerated in this household were Henry T. Carpenter [57 New York], his wife: Ann [52 New Jersey], & Eliza Stewart [10 New York]. Henry is a laborer.3 Henry made his will on 28 May 1864.
I Henry T Carpenter of he town or Horseheads in the County of Chemung and State of New York of the age of sixty two years and being of sound mind and memory do make publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say - - -First – I give and devise to my wife Ann B. Carpenter her heirs & assigns all those certain village lots known as six village lots situate in the town of Little Falls, County of Morrison and State of Minnesota conveyed to me by one George W Brown together with all the hereditaments and appurtenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the premises above described to the said Ann B her heirs and assigns forever - - - Second – I give and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate, goods & chattels of whatever nature or kind soever after payment of my lawful debts, to my said wife Ann B. - - - Third and I hereby make constitute and appoint my wife Ann B. Carpenter sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribe my name and affixed my seal this twenty eighth day of May om the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Sixty four - - - Henry T. Carpenter.4
Henry departed this life on Wednesday, 28 February 1866 in Horseheads at age 63 years, 6 months and 13 days. Henry was buried at the Old Seventh Street Cemetery, Elmira, Chemung Township, Tioga County, New York.5 His will was probated on 6 March 1866.
