John Truesdell1

     John was born on Sunday, 21 August 1774 in Warwick, Orange County, New York. He was the son of Gamaliel Truesdale and Anne Whitney. John married Ester Bennett in July 1796 in Warwick, Orange County, New York. In July 1796, John, Ester & their family removed to Warwick, Orange County, New York. By May 1814, the family resided at Elmira, Tioga County, New York. John & Ester had children: Mary Ann [8/12/1797-3/03/1874][m. John Breese Jr.], Elizabeth [1/03/1799-5/11/1818], John Jr. [8/07/1800-5/29/1817], James [4/17/1802-6/13/1815], Josiah Bennett [6/04/1803-5/02/1881]m.6 4/12/182 Anna Hudnot], Gamaliel [8/11/1804 - 2/20/1875][m. 9/27/1827 Phebe Riker [5/22/1809 - 10/8/1851]], Sarah [1/30/1806-4/18/1806], Sarah [2/26/1807-4/14/1808], Hester [5/28/1810-5/19/1824] & Sally Marie [6/13/1813- ][m. 2/22/1843 John Carpenter].2 John departed this life on Sunday, 26 August 1849 in Big Flats, Chemung County, New York, at age 75 years and 5 days. He was buried at Horseheads in Maple Grove Cemetery. The inscrptin on his tombstone reads: John Trudell Died Aug. 26 1849 Aged 75 years 5 days.3
