Joseph Treat

     Joseph was born on Sunday, 17 September 1662 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut.¹ He was the son of Robert Treat and Jane Tapp. Joseph married Frances Bryan in 1690 in Milford. Joseph and Frances had children: Frances [12/16/1690-10/07/1707], Joseph [3/21/1693-5/00/1772] [m. 6/09/1720 Hannah Buckingham & 2nd 9/26/1734 Clemence Buckingham], Anna [1/30/1696-12/03/1723] [m. 9/25/1718 Miles Merwin], John 12/24/1697-11/20/1723], Sarah [6/06/1699-11/12/1748] [m. 3/15/1722 Richard Bryan], Jean [1701-11/12/1723] & Richard [11/28/1708-11/29/1778] [m. 1735 Mary Thomas & 2nd 1746 Rebecca Hall]. Joseph's wife, Frances, died on 21 September 1703 in Milford leaving him a widower. Joseph married 2nd Elizabeth Merwin on 8 November 1705 in Milford. Joseph and Elizabeth had one son Stphen Henry [10/10/1715-11/13/1794] [m. 1746 Mariam Clark]. Joseph's wife, Elizabeth, died on 10 January 1716 in Milford leaving him a widower. Joseph departed this life on Saturday, 9 August 1721 in Milford at age 58 years, 10 months and 23 days. He was buried there in Milford Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Here layes buried the body of Capt. Joseph Treat who departed this life August 9th Anno Domni 1721 in the 59 year of his life.
