Hannah Torrey

     Hannah was born in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut. She was christened there on 31 March 1773.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel Torrey II and Abigail Cowell. Hannah married Nathaniel Elton on 7 July 1799 in Middletown. They were married by Rev. Enoch Huntington.¹ Nathaniel and Hannah had two children, Harriet [1803] & Mary [1807], and possibly others. 30 August 1850, Hannah and her husband, Nathaniel, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Sharon, Litchfield County, Connecticut. Enumerated in this household were Nathaniel Elton [72 New York], Hannah [73 New York], Harriet 47 New York] & Mary [43 New York].² Hannah's husband, Nathaniel, died before 11 July 1860 in Sharon leaving her a widow. 11 July 1860, Hannah was listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Sharon, Litchfield County, Connecticut. Enumerated in this household were Hannah Elton [83 Connecticut], Mary [53 New York] & Chauncey Parcher [75 Connecticut].³
