Obituary - At a Ripe old age – Death of Mrs. Anna Ferris, a remarkable Woman - - - Mrs. Anna Ferris who died at her late residence, 24 Montcalm street west, last Sunday, at the age if 86 year, was a remarkable woman in many respects. Having none of the characteristics peculiar to the aged, whose interests center in the past, she lived in the present. Her sympathy with young people and their ambitions was keen. Until her death, which was partly brought on the excessive heat during th ten days preceding her demise, she retained all her mental faculties, among them a retentive memory and strong eyes. She was a great reader and kept herself posted on politic, not only local and national, but European as well. Few men were more familiar with the history of all political movements. - - - Mrs. Ferris remembered well many incidents of her earliest childhood. She recalled the fact that an old colored servant held her upon his shoulders to see the fireworks and demonstrations of delight at the ratification of peace that marked the close of the war o 1812. - - - Her ancestors were granted a tract of land in Throgsneck, Westchester Co. N. Y. by James II in 1620, and soon afterward a large homestead was erected there, which is still standing and in good condition. In this old homestead Mrs. Ferris spent the greater part of her long life. She had lived in Detroit since 1890. She was born in New York city, the daughter of Dr. Valentine Seaman, who was the first to introduce vaccination to that city. - - - Decease left one daughter, Miss Anna Ferris, and a brother and sister. The brother, Valentine Seaman is 96 years old. [Detroit Free Press Tuesday July 13, 1897]6
She was buried there in the Woodmere Cemetery.7
