Ruth Leigh Ormsby

     Ruth Leigh was born on Tuesday, 25 January 1881 in Stockbridge Township, Ingham County, Michigan. She was the daughter of Milo James Ormsby & Mary Phillips. Ruth Leigh married Alva James Howell, son of Parshall Howell Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth Torrey, on 7 December 1899 in Stockbridge Township, Ingham County, Michigan.1 21 June 1900, the U.S. Federal Census listed Ruth and her husband, Alva, living in the home of her parents at Stockbridge Township, Ingham County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Milo Ormsby [62 Illinois VT&VT-June 1839], his wife: Mary [53 New York-May 1847], son-in-law, Alva Howell [22 Michigan-May 1878], daughter: Ruth Howell [19 Michigan-January 1881], & sister: Susan Ormsby [69 VT-October 1830]. Alva & Ruth had been married 0 years with no children. Milo & Mary had been married 30 years with 5 children, three living.2 Alva & Ruth had one son, Roy C. [10/02/1904-7/25/1926]. Ruth departed this life on Monday, 1 January 1912 in White Oaks Township at age 30 years, 11 months and 7 days. She died of Cerebral hemrage and convulsions - -Stricken in Church - Stockbridge January 2, - While attendinga church service, Sunday evening at Millville Church, 5 miles north of Stockbridge. Mrs Alva Howell was taken suddenly ill. She was taken to H. A. Bravender's residence and cared for, but was not able to be taken to her home one and one half miles away. She passed away Monday forenoon. She leaves a hisband, a little boy eight years old, and a mother and father, residents of Stockbridge. The father is in very poor health, has been sick for two years, and confined to the house most of the time.3 She was buried at Stockbridge in the Oaklawn Cemetery.4
