Gabriel Mead
M, b. 1587, d. 12 March 1666
Gabriel was born in 1587 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. He was the son of Priscilla Mead and Dorothy Grey. In April 1635, Gabriel left from Lydd, County Kent, England aboard the ship, "Elizabeth", bound for New England. He was accompanied to America by his brothers: William & David. They arrived later in 1635.. Gabriel married 2nd Joanna Bates in 1636 in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.1 Gabriel & Joanna had chldren: Israel [1637], David, Lydia & Experience, Sarah & Patience. He was made a freeman in Dorchester on 2 May 1638. Gabriel made his will on 18 January 1654.
Be it known unto all men by these presents that I Gabriel Mead of Dorchester in the Massachusetts being Aged & infirme in body yet of perfect remembrance doe therefore make my last will & testament in manner following first I commit my soule to God trusting through the mediation of Jesus Christ to bee made partaker of his Everlasting mercy & my body unto the earth until the Resurrection at the Last And for the little portions that the Lord hath given me in ______ mind & will that Johanna my loving wife shall be my Executrix & have the full disposal of all my Estate for her comfort & helping to bring up my Children while shee ________after her decease my mind & will that my son Isaac have & enjoy the house that I now dwell in with _______ appurtenances thereto belong - - -Item I doe give unto my sonn David my old house or Garden there to adjoining & also my plott of Land ____ field neare the burying place - - - Item I doe give unto my daughter Lydia the sume ______ to be paid as my wife shall be able within two years after my decease - - - Item I do give unto my daughters Sarah & Patience the sum of Thirty shillings a piece paid them within one year after trhey shall be ________live so to be & it is my mind that if Either of my ________ they come to Enjoy that before given them either ____________then the same to be Equally divided after my will ______the rest of my children Also it is my mind & will ________ shall be necessity be forced to sell Either part or _______maintenance of herself or children while she ___________ she shall have power soe to doe with the advice ______ after named, And in Case she should marry then __________ that my sons shall Enjoy the former gift when they reach the age of one & Twenty years, And I do intreat my friends Deacon Clapp Ensign Foster to be Overseers ____and assist & advise my wife & children as need may require ____ money to this my willI have set my hand this ____January 1654 - - -Witness Hopestill Foster [the blanks above indicates where words were missing at the end of lines].2
Gabriel departed this life on Friday, 12 March 1666 in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. His will was probated on 17 July 1667.
