Rebecca (?)

     Rebecca was born circa 1627. It has been noted that her maiden name may have been Wheeler being born in Bristol, England. Rebecca married Henry Rowland circa 1646.¹ Rebecca's husband, Henry, died before 29 December 1691 in Fairfield, leaving her a widow. Rebecca made her will on 12 December 1691 at Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Here follows the last will and testament of me Rebecca Rowland of Fairfield in ________ Lane in the County of Fairfield: I being old and stricken in years and being weak and infirm in body but yet through the goodness of God I knowing this the use of my memory and understanding ye Ido make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth: Imprimis: I commit my soule to him that _____ hoping for and _____ salvation and through the merits and mediation of my ____Lord Jesus Christ my only savior and redeemer and my body for a comely burial hoping for a joyful resurrection at the day of his ________ and for my worldly effects that God hath given me I dispose of it as followeth: I give to my son Joseph Rowland my biggest brass kettle and a plain one: Also one pair of Shoats two . . . [not readable] . . . I give to my four daughters viz: Elizabeth Wheeler, Abigail Jones Rebecca Smith and Mary Frost thirty shillings a piece to each of them to be paid within one year and one day after my decease and all the rest of my effects I give to my son Israel Rowland and I nominate and appoint my son Isreal to be my executor and that this is my last will and testament I have hereunto set to my hand this twelfth of December one thousand six hundred ninety and one - - -the mark of Rebecca Rowland - - - Witness John Bur and Cornelius Hill.

Rebecca made her will on 12 December 1691 at Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. She describes herself as “old”. She mentions her sons: Joseph & Israel and her daughters: Elizabeth Wheeler, Abigail Jones, Rebecca Smith & Mary Frost. She alsomentions her son, Jonathan's children.² Rebecca departed this life before 6 November 1694 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. The inventory of Rebecca's estate was taken on Saturday, 6 November 1694 by John Sturges and Samuel Robinson. The estate was appraised at £99 16 s. 6d. Her will was probated on 6 November 1694.
