Bessie Gertrude Cecilia Underwood

     Bessie was born on Wednesday, 12 July 1893 at Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas. She was the daughter of William Thomas Underwood [January 1841-22 July 1912] & Susan Elizabeth Hostettler [6 September 1864-2 April 1959]. William & Susan were married 12 January 1881. Bessie married Robert Franklin McCurdy, son of Benjamin Peter Phillip Franklin McCurdy and Sarah Elsworth, on 8 June 1909 at Lyndon, Osage County, Kansas. Bessie departed this life on Friday, 23 December 1960 at St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend, Barton County, Kansas, at age 67 years, 5 months and 11 days. [Obituary: Hutchinson News - 24 December 1960] Bessie was laid to rest on 27 December 1960 in the Albert Cemetery, Albert, Barton County, Kansas. She was a member of Albert Methodist Church & its Woman's Society in Albert, Kansas. For many years, she was a faithful quilter.
