Clifford was born on Monday, 31 July 1911 at Williamsburg, Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Thomas McCurdy and Adella Viola Duffey. Clifford married Sylvia Irene Ashburn on 28 January 1937 at Garnett, Anderson County, Kansas. Clifford, as a young man, worked in the coal mines in the Williamsburg area before beginning work with the Santa Fe Railroad. After forty-five years, he retired in 1974. As a maching operator, running the main line from Chicago to LaJunta, Colorado. He was an avid hunter & fisherman & a member of the Williamsburg Ottawa Wildlife Association. He was also an enthusiastic gardener. He was a former Williamsburg councilman. Clifford departed this life on Tuesday, 27 March 1990 at Williamsburg, Franklin County, Kansas, at age 78 years, 7 months and 27 days. Clifford was laid to rest in the Oakhill Cemetery, Quenemo, Osage County, Kansas.
