Sidney Smith McCurdy

     Sidney was born on Monday, 12 July 1841 at Elmwood, Peoria County, Illinois. He was the son of James McCurdy II and Roxana Smith. Sidney married Anna Elizabeth Clark on 20 February 1868 at Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas. 1880, Sidney and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Valley Brook, Osage County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were Sidney S. McCurdy [38 Illinois], Anna C. [33 Indiana], Cora [10 Kansas], Bertha [7 Kansas], Roxanna [4 Kansas], Edna [2 Kansas], William A. [brother - 27 Illinois].¹ Sidney's wife, Anna, died on 9 November 1880 in Quenemo, Osage County, Kansas, at age 32 years, 10 months and 20 days, leaving him a widower. An unknown person married 2nd an unknown person on 20 July 1887 at Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. 7 June 1900, Sidney and his wife, Maria, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Lincoln Township, Madison County, Arkansas. Enumerated in this household were Sidney S McCurdy [57 - Jul 1842 Illinois], his wife Maria [38 - Feb 1862 Kansas], Sidney R. [10 - Sept 1889 Arkansas] & Dalla M [7 - Nov 1890 Arkansas]. Sidney was farming.² 1905, Sidney was listed on the Kansas State Census. Enumerated in this household were S. S. Mcurdy [63 Indiana, from Illinois], M. A. [43 Kansas], Roxey [29 Kansas], S. R. [15 Arkansas], Dollie [14 Arkansas]. 30 April 1910, Sidney listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Red River Township, Tillman County, Oklahoma. Enumerated in this household were Sidney S McCurdy [68 Illinois], his wife: Maria [50 Kansas], Sidney R. [19 Arkansas]. This was a second marriage for both; they had been married 21 years. Sidney was the father of six children; Maria was the mother of 4 children, all living. Sidney was farming and his son was working with him.³ Sidney departed this life on Wednesday, 19 April 1911 at Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma, at age 69 years, 9 months and 7 days. Sidney was laid to rest in the Dunkard Cemetery, Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma.
