James Valentine Seaman

     James was born on Wednesday, 16 January 1861 at Manhattan, New York City, New York. James married Matille Prigge on 27 March 1907.¹ 16 May 1910, James and his wife, Matille, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Angeles National Forest Reserve, Los Angeles County, California, on the West Fork of the San Gabriel River. Enumerated in this household were James V. Seaman [49 New York] &Matille A. [24 New York]. They have been married for 3 years with no children. They are renting. He is a ranger working in the Angeles Forest.² 15 January 1920, James and his wife, Matille, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Azusa, Los Angeles County, California, at 321 San Gabriel Avenue. Enumerated in this household were James Seaman [53 New York] & Matille [30 New York]. They own their home free and clear. They are working a chicken ranch.³ James departed this life on Sunday, 11 November 1923 in Azusa at age 62 years, 9 months and 26 days. His remains were returned to New York and his funeral service was held at St. Andrew's Church in Manhatten. He was buried on 22 November 1923 at Valhalla, Westchester County, New York, in Kensico Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: James Valentine Seaman - Jan. 16, 1861 - Nov. 11, 1923.⁴
