His remains were returned to New York and his funeral service was held at St. Andrew's Church in Manhatten. He was buried on 22 November 1923 at Valhalla, Westchester County, New York, in Kensico Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: James Valentine Seaman - Jan. 16, 1861 - Nov. 11, 1923.4
